5 Tips for Moving in the Summer Heat - Texas Edition-image

As the summer months approach, so does the peak season for moving! The warmer weather and longer daylight hours make it an exciting time to transition to a new apartment. However, moving during this season also brings its own set of challenges, especially when it comes to ensuring the safety and well-being of our new residents within our apartment community. Working in high heat can increase the risk of injury, heat exhaustion, sun burns, and more.  Ultimately, there’s little you can do to completely avoid the heat during a typical Texas summer, but you can take different precautionary measures to limit risk.  So, in this blog post, we'll explore some essential steps to achieve a smooth and safe moving experience. Hydration is Key: One of the most critical aspects of moving is staying hydrated. Drinking water before, during, and after time spent outside can reduce the risk of serious medical incidents.  Consider reaching out to the leasing or service team if you run out of water during your move.  If you have others helping you, keep an eye on their water consumption too.  When it comes to Garland TX heat, overhydrated = better than underhydrated.  Plan for Early Mornings or Late Evenings: Typically, peak heat during the day occurs between late morning and early afternoon. To avoid the worst of the heat, we advise residents to schedule their move-in or move-out activities during the cooler hours of the day, such as early mornings or late evenings. Not only will this help prevent heat-related illnesses, but it can also make the moving process more manageable and comfortable for everyone involved. Take Frequent Breaks: Moving is physically demanding, and the combination of heavy lifting and high temperatures can quickly lead to exhaustion and dehydration. Our team encourages residents and movers to take regular breaks in shaded areas or air-conditioned spaces to rest and cool down. Breaks are also the perfect opportunity to check out our resident clubhouse, meet new neighbors, relax by the pool, or grab a coffee at a nearby coffee shop. Slow and steady is the name of the game! Put On Sun Protection: Sunscreen, sunglasses, and hats are all great ways to protect yourself from the sun. Sun exposure can cause sunburns and long-term medical conditions; therefore, don’t underestimate the importance of PPE when moving. Retreat at Spring Park is in the heart of Garland, Texas, and our community is exposed to high UV rays and sunlight during the year. While this sunshine is great for a lot of things, it is not ideal for working outside. Cover up with sun-protecting clothing, accessories, and skin care to avoid unnecessary sun damage. Consider Working with a Moving Company Hiring a moving company can reduce a lot of the stress associated with moving, and professional teams should be more prepared to handle the summer weather. Whether you’re moving large furniture, fragile items, or a small load, there is bound to be a company in the area that meets your needs. Plus, new residents can also reach out to our leasing team for personalized recommendations. Moving during the summer heat presents unique challenges, but with proper planning, hydration, and support, you can navigate through the process safely and comfortably.  Summer is a great time to move into a new apartment community, and we hope to see smiling new faces at our next Morguard pool party!
